Lamborghini Urus SE: A bull with two hearts in its chest

Italian sports car manufacturer Lamborghini has unveiled the Urus SE, the first car to be given an E license plate - E for electric, as it is a plug-in hybrid. The sports SUV, named after the original bovine, practically has two hearts in its chest: an electric motor and an internal combustion engine and is therefore said to emit 80 percent less CO2. "This is the first stage of our strategy to reduce the emissions of our vehicles," says Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini.

Nevertheless, Lamborghini fans do not have to do without sportiness: "We promise our customers that we will reduce CO2 emissions with every new generation of vehicle and offer more performance at the same time." The Urus SE shows how this works: the drive delivers 800 hp (588 kW), 130 hp more than the previous top-of-the-range "Perfomante" model.

Whether the low fuel consumption can be realized in everyday life depends heavily on the driver: if he charges the lithium-ion battery as often as possible at the socket and only treats himself to the sound of the V8 petrol engine from time to time, this can be achieved. The Urus SE has an all-electric range of 60 kilometers. The price has not yet been set, but is likely to be well over 200,000 euros. (aum)
