Cupra renews both driving forces

Six years after the launch of the brand, Cupra is renewing its two most important models, the Formentor and Leon. Both have not only been given a new design and a more modern cockpit, but also new engines and are set to continue the success story. The Cupra designers call the sharply drawn front between the two LED headlights the "Shark Nose". "The Cupra Formentor and Leon are the driving forces behind the brand's success," says Cupra boss Wayne Griffiths at the lavish presentation of the new models in Madrid.

The most popular model is the Formentor. Like the Leon, it is now available as a plug-in hybrid with an electric range of 100 kilometers and 272 hp (200 kW) - which promises sporty driving performance. The part-time electric cars from Barcelona recharge their battery with 50 kW.

The most powerful engine in future will be the new 333 PS (245 kW) TSI petrol engine. Prices start at 39,400 euros for the Formentor and 35,500 euros for the Leon, with hardly any changes in terms of equipment. Both models will be available to order from May 6 and will arrive in dealerships at the end of June. (aum)
