The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT becomes a safety car
The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT will be the new Formula E safety car. At the double race in Berlin on May 11 and 12, the most powerful production Porsche with over 1000 hp will take over from the Turbo S. One vehicle will be used as an emergency car and a second as a replacement car - with different equipment and in different colors.
The two vehicles, one with the Weissach performance package and without a rear seat bench, will continue to be handled by the Porsche specialists from Manthey, who are based at the Nürburgring and have made the necessary modifications. These include the warning lights and the associated electrics, a high-tech communication system and fire extinguishers. The experienced Portuguese driver Bruno Correia will continue to drive the safety car.
Thanks to the optional Weissach package, the Taycan Turbo GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 305 km/h. The so-called Attack Mode with up to 120 kW (163 PS) of additional power for short periods is based on the technology of the Porsche 99X Electric, the current world champion car from Formula E.
Porsche is contesting its fifth Formula E season. In addition to the factory's own TAG Heuer team, the US customer team Andretti Formula E will be competing with the 99X Electric. (aum)
