Toyota tests use of fuel cell trucks in Europe

Toyota has unveiled a fuel cell truck together with the Dutch VDL Group. The hydrogen truck, equipped with the Japanese car company's technology components, will be used in Toyota's logistics traffic in Europe. VDL Groep, known in this country mainly as a manufacturer of omnibuissen, is already preparing four other trucks to be used by logistics service providers working for Toyota: VOS Transport Group, CEVA, Groupe CAT and Yusen.

The transport companies will use the hydrogen trucks on their daily logistics routes between Cologne, Antwerp (Belgium), Lille (France) and Amsterdam and Rotterdam. There will be at least one hydrogen filling station along the routes - including back-up solutions for unexpected incidents. The cooperation of all participants is intended to deepen knowledge about the use of fuel cell trucks on public roads. The field trial is scheduled to run for five years. (aum)
