Elegend EL1 follows in the footsteps of the Audi Sport Quattro S1
Elegend from Beilngries has announced the construction of 30 hand-built EL1s for next year. The 4.16-meter short electric supercar deliberately borrows its appearance and proportions from the Audi Sport Quattro S1 from the 1980s. The monocoque of the Elegend EL1 is made of carbon, while the subframes for service and maintenance work are made of aluminum.
Compared with the study presented two years ago, the design of the prototype now unveiled has been refined. There are newly developed recessed grips and, for registration reasons in the USA, exterior mirrors. The two side doors of the two-seater can also be opened wide, as can the tailgate with the integrated C-pillar. The glass roof in the form of a streamlined NACA air intake stands out. Also on board are air conditioning, a rearview camera and parking sensors, as well as hard bucket seats. Individual elements of the interior are made of exposed carbon.
Two electric motors with a total output of up to 600 kW (816 hp) transmit power to all four wheels. The EL1 sprints from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around 2.8 seconds, and it takes 7.5 seconds to reach 200 km/h (124 mph) after takeoff. At market launch, Elegend plans a top speed of 300 km/h.
The battery has a net capacity of 80 kWh. The Bavarian manufacturer states a range of just under 400 kilometers and promises that "two hot laps of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife at racing speed" can be covered with one battery charge without loss of power.
The price for an Elegend EL1 is 890,000 euros plus VAT. If all goes well, the company can imagine designing two more automotive icons of the same type in modern coachbuilding - also limited to 30 vehicles. (aum)
