Volvo builds its last diesel engine

Volvo was the first manufacturer to officially announce the end of combustion engines six years ago. Now the company announced that the last diesel engine will be built at the beginning of next year.

From 2030, Volvo wants to sell only electric cars.
Last year, the carmaker had already announced that it would withdraw from the development of new combustion engines and use the corresponding research and development budgets elsewhere. In November 2022, it also sold its shares in Aurobay, the joint venture that housed the remaining combustion engine business.
Just four years ago, diesel was the preferred drive variant in Europe, and not only at Volvo. (aum)
