A recommendation for individualists

Citroën's flagship has always been something special: the legendary DS, introduced in 1955, was very much ahead of its time for over two decades, while the CX that followed in 1974 took streamlined design to the extreme. Italian-inspired futurism distinguished the XM of 1989, and the C6 of 2005, built in significantly lower numbers, again presented itself as a distinct designer piece. DS has since advanced to become its own brand, responsible for the prestige models, but with the C5 X there is now also a large Citroën again.

The latest variant is a second plug-in hybrid with a system output of 180 hp. It is priced at a minimum of 46,290 euros; with a 130 hp three-cylinder without hybridization, the C5X costs only 32,490 euros. At 481 centimeters in length, 186 cm in width and 149 cm in height, the brand flagship is generously dimensioned. The sedan is raised, appears voluminous and elongated, with a bulky nose and a hatchback with full tailgate. Space is extremely generous in both the front and rear.

The 1.6-liter four-cylinder accelerates the C5 X from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds. The top speed is 225 km/h. The electric range is 63 kilometers. Above that, there is an already known version with a system output of 224 hp (165 kW), which offers a bit more power in the upper speed range. However, the 180 hp is sufficient, especially since the comfortable and good-natured chassis of the C5 X invites the driver to relax and glide along.

The competitors for the C5 X are mainly located in the premium segment, but few of them are as spacious and comfortable as the Frenchman, and certainly none are as unusually designed. The large Citroën is therefore a real recommendation for families, business travelers and individualists. (aum/jm)
