BMW 5 Series as a plug-in hybrid

BMW will again be offering the new 5 Series as a plug-in hybrid from November. The sedan will be available as the 530e and 550e x-Drive. The electric standard ranges are between 83 and 103 kilometers. The 530e with 2.0-liter engine, available at prices starting at 65,300 euros, has a system output of 299 hp (220 kW), while the 550e x-Drive with all-wheel drive and inline six-cylinder is 77,300 euros and 489 hp (360 kW). The 530e accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, the 550e x-Drive needs two seconds less. The top speeds are 230 km/h and 250 km/h respectively.

The high-voltage battery provides an increased usable energy content of up to 19.4 kWh. The maximum charging power has been doubled compared with the previous models and is now 7.4 kW, so that the battery can be charged from zero to 100 percent within three hours and 15 minutes. Both vehicles have expanded standard equipment compared to the models with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. The trunk volume remains untouched. (aum)
