Lucid Air: Superlative electric vehicle

Electromobility is a breath of fresh air on the European market. And now a new U.S. brand is entering the stage: Lucid, with a focus on luxury vehicles, wants to take on the likes of Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Tesla. Its first offering, the Lucid Air, is a true superlative electric car.

Even the basic "Pure" version offers an impressive 358 kW (487 hp) of power and up to 930 Newton meters of torque. The top-of-the-line "Midnight Dream Edition" even delivers a breathtaking 828 kW (1126 hp) and accelerates the four-door to 100 km/h in an astonishing 2.7 seconds - faster than the Bugatti Veyron.

However, the luxury car shines not only with power, but also with driving comfort and technical refinements. Everything from the battery to the software was developed in-house to create a compact and efficient drive unit. Even the copper wire windings in the electric motors are patented. The car is full of innovations and has even caught the attention of Aston Martin as a result.

Inside the Lucid Air, you'll find fine materials, a well thought-out cockpit and a surprising amount of legroom in the rear seats. The trunk offers 627 liters and in addition, under the front hood, the largest "frunk" in the industry with further storage space. The driving performance is just as impressive as the range of up to 839 kilometers on a full charge.

Although the Lucid Air plays in the luxury class, however, it lacks some standards such as a head-up display or even air suspension. Nevertheless, with prices starting at 109,000 euros, the premium newcomer is definitely self-assured. (aum/fw)
