It seems as if Kawasaki is currently rushing ahead of the other big manufacturers: Following the announcement of the Ninja e-1 and Z e-1 electric models in the light motorcycle class, the Japanese are now presenting the world's first hybrid series motorcycle. The Ninja 7 Hybrid has a 451-cubic in-line two-cylinder engine coupled with an electric motor complete with boost function.
The twin produces 60 hp (44 kW), while the electric motor contributes a further 7.5 kW (10 hp). It can be switched on manually or in Auto mode. Kawasaki promises performance on a 700cc level, acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is said to be close to the one-liter class, and consumption is no higher than on a 250cc.
The Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid features an automatic stop-start system, a walk mode for maneuvering and can also cover short distances at low speed purely electrically. It is scheduled to hit the market as early as January. However, a retail price has not yet been announced. (aum)
