A jury of German and international motoring journalists has chosen the Volkswagen ID 7 as the "German Car of The Year 2024"! The all-electric model beat off competition from vehicles in all classes.
The trophy was accepted by CEO Thomas Schäfer at the Volkswagen brand headquarters in Wolfsburg. Schäfer commented on the result: "We have barely presented our ID.7 and it has already been named German Car of the Year by a renowned jury of experts - an amazing success! The win shows that we are on the right track."
The Car of the Year was chosen from five final class winners. In addition to the ID 7 in the "Premium up to €70,000 cost price" category, these were the MG4 (Compact - up to €35,000 cost price), the Kia EV9 (Luxury / over €70,000 cost price), the Hyundai Ioniq 6 (New Energy / alternative drives) and Porsche 911 T (Performance). The vehicles were selected by the jury from all the major new models of the past twelve months.
The Volkswagen ID 7 is the sixth time an electric car has come out on top: In 2019 the Jaguar I-Pace won, in 2020 the Porsche Taycan, the Honda e was voted GCOTY 2021 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 GCOTY 2022. Last year, the ID Buzz was the first Volkswagen to take overall victory and the title for 2023.
The German Car of The Year jury consists of 29 motoring journalists active in German-speaking countries. In addition, 10 international guest jurors also voted. The award is supported by the consulting firm Aitastic as well as the companies Alcantara, Bridgestone, Gentex, KST Motorenversuch and ZF Friedrichshafen. (aum)
