Mercedes-Benz with weaker unit sales in the third quarter

Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 510,600 units in the third quarter, four percent fewer than in the third quarter of 2022. In the third quarter, one in five cars sold worldwide was a hybrid or pure electric vehicle (xEV). In addition, sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) increased 66 percent in the third quarter. In the first nine months of the year, BEV sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars nearly doubled (+97 percent). Overall, sales in the first three quarters reached 1,529,800 units (+2 percent).

Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) by Mercedes-Benz Cars reached 61,600 units (+66 percent) in the third quarter. Sales of the electric Smart reached 3900 units (+107 percent) in the third quarter. Including plug-in hybrids, Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars xEV sales increased by 19 percent to 98,400 units in the third quarter. This means that more than one million electric and hybrid vehicles from Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars are now on the road.

Sales in the top-end segment reached 246,500 units (+6 percent) in the first nine months and 69,900 units (-11 percent) in the third quarter. In this context, Mercedes-AMG sales were curtailed by model changes, in particular of the GLC. Sales of battery-electric Mercedes-AMG models increased by 51 percent in the third quarter.

Sales of the G-Class increased by 11 percent in the third quarter. Sales of Mercedes-Maybach increased by 26 percent to 6600 units in the same period. Sales of the GLS SUV grew by 3 percent in the third quarter to 13,300 units, and 3700 units (+162 percent) of the all-electric EQS SUV were sold.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class continues to lead its segment in China in the third quarter with growth of 9 percent and a market share of over 50 percent. Worldwide, S-Class sales reached 16,900 units in the third quarter (-18 percent).

Sales in the Core segment reached 290,200 units in the third quarter (-1 percent). Sales of the C-Class reached 82,000 units in the third quarter (+6 percent) and 241,700 units in the first nine months of the year (+11 percent). Sales of the E-Class increased by +3 percent to 75,200 units in the third quarter. Sales of the new GKC fell by 17 percent to 81,500 units in the third quarter.

Sales in the Entry segment reached 150,500 units (-5 percent). The BEV share in the Entry segment was 23 percent in the third quarter. Sales of the GLA and GLB amounted to 26,800 (-15 percent) and 36,300 units (-9 percent) respectively.

In Europe, sales increased by 12 percent to 164,200 units in the third quarter, reaching 485,200 units (+8 percent) in the nine-month period.

Sales in Asia since the beginning of the year have been on a par with the previous year at 736,300 units (+0 percent).

In North America, sales reached 248,800 units (-3 percent) at the end of September. (aum)
