The Mercedes-Benz e-Actros goes on the long haul

Unlike its two distribution brothers with the identification numbers 300 and 400, the first battery-electric long-distance truck from Mercedes-Benz does not pull up with the combustion engine cab: Daimler Truck today unveiled the final production version of the e-Actros 600 with a specific driver's cab. However, it will be a good year before the largely smoothly styled semitrailer tractor with the striking cooling air intake just above the bumper is seen more frequently on the highways. However, the first series-produced vehicles will go out to selected customers in advance at the end of the year before larger numbers are produced.

Mercedes-Benz promises ranges of around 500 kilometers, charging times at a CCS pillar of just over an hour for the standard specification of 20 to 80 percent of the battery capacity, and lower operating costs for most users than with a diesel. This will offset the higher purchase price, emphasizes Karin Radström, Managing Director MB Truck.

The e-Actros 600 has 400 kW (544 hp) of rated power and 600 kW (816 hp) of peak power, as well as four gears. The three batteries, located where the fuel tank usually is, have a net capacity of 600 kilowatt-hours. According to Mercedes-Benz, the powertrain and batteries are designed for a service life of ten years and 1.2 million kilometers. (aum/jri)
