Volkswagen ID 4 and ID 5: additional power and range

Volkswagen is launching advance sales of the further developed ID 4 and ID 5. The two battery-electric VW models are now being offered with a completely newly developed infotainment and software generation. In addition, a new drive system is being used in the "Pro" and "GTX" versions: The drive, which is being used for the first time in the ID 7, offers significantly more power and torque while reducing energy consumption.

The combined WLTP range of the new ID4 electric SUV increases to up to 550 kilometers thanks to the new e-drive: The more spacious SUV coupé ID 5 achieves up to 556 WLTP kilometers3 on one battery charge. Volkswagen offers the optimized models at the same basic prices as their predecessors.

The most important new technology feature of all ID 4 and ID 5 with 77-kWh battery (net) is the powertrain with a new e-machine on the rear axle and a new generation of batteries. The rear-wheel-drive ID 4 Pro1 and ID 5 Pro2 models now feature a 210 kW (286 hp) e-motor with 60 kW (82 hp) more power. Power delivery is more dynamic, as torque has also increased from 310 newton meters (Nm) to 545 Nm. The plus of 235 Nm corresponds to an increase of around 75 percent. The all-wheel-drive ID 4 Pro 4Motion develops a system output of 210 kW (286 hp)7 with the new rear e-machine and an additional e-machine on the front axle, representing an increase of 15 kW (21 hp).

The particularly sporty and also all-wheel-drive top models ID 4 GTX and ID.5 GTX will in future provide a system output of 250 kW (340 hp) and thus an additional 30 kW (41 hp). The GTX models now clearly crack the 6.0-second mark with 5.4 seconds. As before, the ID 4 GTX and ID 5 GTX are electronically locked at 180 km/h. Analogous to the GTX models, the top speed of the "Pro" models now also increases to 180 km/h (previously 160 km/h). The drive of the ID 4 basic model remains unchanged: The ID.4 Pure11 reaches 160 km/h with its 125 kW engine (170 hp).

The range of all ID 4 and ID 5 with the new 77-kWh battery increases. Two examples: The ID 4 Pro reaches up to 550 kilometers (WLTP combined), 17 kilometers more than its predecessor. The new ID 5 Pro reaches up to 556 kilometers, an increase of eleven kilometers. As before, the ID 4 and ID 5 models with rear-wheel drive charge at 135 kW. The all-wheel drive models offer increased DC charging power of up to 175 kW. In only about ten minutes, these ID versions absorb energy for an additional 178 kilometers at maximum charging power. The basic ID.4 Pure version with a 52 kWh battery is now offered with a charging power of up to 115 kW instead of 110 kW. (aum)
