The cooling concept of Mahle's SCT (Superior Continuous Torque) electric motor has won the prestigious "Top Innovator Award 2023" from the European Automotive Suppliers Association (CLEPA). The Stuttgart-based technology group won in the "Green" category. The innovative oil cooling system ensures that the traction motor can operate at high power for an unlimited period. This significantly increases the performance of electric cars and commercial vehicles.
With the SCT-E motor, Mahle currently has the most enduring electric motor in its range. According to measurement results, it can deliver between 93 and 100 percent of its peak power on a sustained basis. This ratio between continuous and peak power, which has never been achieved on the market before, enables it to be used in e-vehicles of all kinds, even under demanding conditions. Classic examples are inclines for e-trucks or repeated acceleration of a battery-electric passenger car. This is made possible by the innovative integrated oil cooling system, which also allows the waste heat generated to be used in the overall vehicle system. In addition, the motor is very compact and lightweight.
Only recently, Mahle presented a new modular technology system for electric motors that combines the strengths of the SCT drive with the advantages of the MCT (Magnet-free Contactless Transmitter) electric motor, which is also considered a benchmark. The system combines high peak power and wear-free, because contactless, power transmission. In addition, no rare earths are required.
Another award was presented in Berlin. There, Mahle received the "Building Public Trust Award" from the auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as the best non-stock market-oriented company for the quality and credibility of its sustainability reporting. The jury of independent experts from academia and business recognized the automotive supplier's high-quality and transparent reporting in terms of consistency as well as completeness and materiality of the information presented.
