Presentation Peugeot 208: Freshly renovated

Last year, the Peugeot 208 was the best-selling car in Europe. The all-electric version of the small car plays an important role in Germany, accounting for 50 percent of orders. The French have now given their bestseller a facelift. The revised 208 will be available at dealerships in Germany from December. Prices for the small car, which is available as a combustion engine, 48-volt hybrid and electric version, start at €21,225 for the PureTech 75, the hybrid versions are available from €27,125 and end at €40,325 for the 115 kW (156 PS) E-208 GT.

Three years after its market launch, the 4.05 meter long and 1.75 meter wide French car has a new look. The Peugeot now presents itself with three long vertical light claws in the bumpers and a large radiator grille. At the rear, the claw motif is arranged horizontally in the rear lights, giving the French car a powerful appearance. The digital instrument cluster with a central ten-inch touchscreen has been modernized. All controls can be operated intuitively. In the Allure and GT versions, the screen features HD technology. It's nice to see that there are still rotary knobs with quick selection buttons for some menu items. In addition to full smartphone connectivity, the 208 is also up to date in terms of safety and offers all standard driver assistance systems.

The electric version with a torque of 270 Newton meters was available for an initial test drive. The electric vehicle impresses with its powerful acceleration and good cornering behavior. The five-door model, which weighs just under 1.6 tons, sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds and tops out at 150 km/h (governed). Peugeot specifies the standard consumption as 14.0 to 14.5 kWh per 100 kilometers, which we were able to achieve according to the on-board computer (14.1 kWh). The seats are comfortable and offer good lateral support. The maximum range according to the WLTP cycle is 410 kilometers. The lithium-ion battery housed in the floor of the car has a capacity of 51 kWh and can be recharged to 80 percent in 35 minutes at a 100 kW fast-charging station. (aum)
