The new Dacia Duster is in the starting blocks

Normally, complaining is a common greeting among business people. Not so for Thilo Schmidt, who has been Managing Director of Renault subsidiary Dacia in Germany for one and a half years. Quite the opposite: the 43-year-old native of Switzerland, who started his career at Renault in 2006 and most recently headed the French company's branch in Austria as Managing Director, has every reason to celebrate. His brand, which has been represented in Germany since 2005, is going from record to record.

The four models Duster, Jogger, Sandero and Spring are also selling like hot cakes in Germany. In total, over 900,000 customers have opted for a Dacia here in Germany since 2005. The bottom line is that every ninth car produced by the brand was sold in Germany. The main reason for this success is probably not least the low price of these cars. If the current state subsidy is deducted from the Spring electric car, they all cost less than 20,000 euros each.

This should also apply to the new Dacia Duster, which will roll into stores next year. It looks even more appealing and is larger, but hardly more expensive. The basic version will still be available for less than 20,000 euros. Initial tests will soon show whether the off-roader has what it takes to drive the balance sheet even higher. So far, more than 2.26 million units have been sold across Europe, making it not only the second best-selling SUV among all Dacia models, but also the best-selling SUV in the European private market. Only recently, the model currently available in Germany was awarded a commanding class victory in the "Price/Performance" category in the "Auto Trophy" readers' poll of the Cologne-based "Auto Zeitung".
