Forster A 699 VB: Space for seven

They were once considered the epitome of a motorhome, the "coatis", so called because of their nose-shaped superstructure. These alcoves at the front and high up increase the number of sleeping berths on board. Up to eight travel enthusiasts can secure their own sleeping space and go on vacation. In addition, they are often in the affordable price segment, with prices starting at around 60,000 euros. One of these space vehicles is the Forster A 699 VB, which is based on the Ford Transit and is available for 62,800 euros.

The motorhome from Eura Mobil is just under seven meters long and offers seven sleeping berths and just as many approved, belt-secured seats. A rear garage with access from both sides and an unfortunately rather narrow entrance door are located at the rear of the body. Nevertheless, access here is connected to the remote-controlled central locking system. The interior is light and airy, and the floor covering and upholstery are easy to clean.

A bunk bed measuring 212 centimetres long and 87 centimetres wide occupies the rear, right next to it is the washroom with a cassette toilet that is difficult to use. On the other hand, there is a separate shower with plenty of room to move and a hinged window for good ventilation.

The L-shaped kitchen is located opposite and is equipped with a two-burner gas hob, a stainless steel sink and a 135-liter refrigerator. In the living area, there are two seating groups with benches facing each other, both of which can be converted into beds. Finally, the 209-centimetre-long and 160-centimetre-wide double bed in the alcove is of princely dimensions, and the headroom of almost one meter is also sufficient. The plywood board of the mattress base can be folded upwards with the help of gas pressure springs, making it easier to access the driver's cab.

The front doors of the Transit make it less easy to get in and out of the cab, as they do not open particularly wide. On the other hand, the finely contoured seats for the driver and front passenger are comfortable even on long journeys. There are plenty of storage compartments, including a USB port and cup holders in the cab.

The Forster A 699 VB weighs 2900 kilograms unladen, 600 kilograms of payload are permitted. That won't be enough when the whole crew is on the road. Forster therefore offers an upgrade of the basic vehicle to 4.1 tons for 690 euros. The 2.0-liter diesel has no trouble with this either. With 130 hp (96 kW) and 385 Newton meters of torque, it has sufficient pulling power. Due to the large frontal area, the engine requires an average of 11.6 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

Thanks to its living space variability and above-average storage space, the Forster A699 VB is worth a closer look. There is still room for improvement in terms of equipment, but its core values with a wood-free GRP superstructure and hail-protected roof, as well as a five-year watertight guarantee, make it an attractive offer for larger travel groups.
