Audi sends the Q8 e-Tron into the desert

Raised bodywork, rustic add-on parts, graphic effects: With the 911 Dakar and the Huracán Sterrato, premium manufacturers such as Porsche and Lamborghini have launched special models with cult character. Now Audi wants to jump on the bandwagon - with the Dakar edition based on the Q8 e-Tron. Audi intends to produce exactly 1000 units.

70 parts of the chassis were modified to raise the car by 6.5 centimetres. The track has been extended by 5.7 centimetres and the wheel arches have been widened accordingly. Roof racks and an outdoor bag are standard, and up to 40 kilograms can be loaded on the roof. The camera exterior mirrors, which are available at extra cost on the regular Q8 e-Tron, reduce the width of the vehicle.

The interior largely offers the regular S-Line equipment. Special floor mats and stainless steel overlays on the pedals provide a rustic flair. The new Offroad driving mode is on board for extreme off-road situations. The maximum ground clearance is maintained up to 50 km/h, above which the Audi lowers gradually.

The Dakar is based on the Q8 e-Tron 55, which delivers up to 300 kW (408 hp). Equipped in this way, it sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 200 km/h. In the optimistic WLTP cycle, it has a range of up to 450 kilometers.

The cost price of the Edition Dakar is around 120,000 euros, more than 30,000 euros above the 55; adjusted for equipment, the premium shrinks to around 10,000 euros. A further 10,000 euros are due for the Edition 99. (aum)
