Toyota brings the GR Yaris in world champion form
Two special models of the Toyota GR Yaris are world champions in the truest sense of the word: the two High-Performnace editions were developed in collaboration with rally drivers Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä. The "Gravel" and "Track" driving modes have been replaced by two individual settings that reflect the personal preferences of eight-time world rally champion Ogier and reigning champion Rovanperä respectively. A revised digital instrumentation coordinates the interaction with the normal AWD mode. The special models also feature individual design accents.
The Toyota GR Yaris "Ogier Edition" has the "Morizo" and "Seb" modes. The setting developed by Toyota boss Akio Toyoda is designed for consistent race times under full and partial acceleration as well as deceleration. The "Seb" mode in turn focuses on the front and rear Torsen limited-slip differentials and all-wheel drive to send more torque to the rear axle
The Ogier Edition is painted in matt Stealth Grey. The French flag adorns the radiator grille as a tribute to the rally driver's home country. 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, WRC stickers on the front mudguard, a redesigned CFRP rear spoiler and blue-painted brake callipers add further accents. There are also "Toyota Gazoo Racing" stickers on the doors and an edition logo at the rear. In the interior, a plaque on the passenger side is a reminder of the eight-time world champion's WRC successes. While the steering wheel features blue, grey and red contrasting stitching in reference to the French national colors, grey stitching can be found on the gearshift, parking brake and seat covers.
In the "Rovanperä Edition", the Toyota GR Yaris features a unique "Donuts" mode, which was specially developed for the youngest WRC champion: With a constant and strong torque flow to the rear wheels, this setting is predestined for drifting and "circling" - a profession that Kalle Rovanperä has mastered perfectly. Alternatively, drivers can activate the "Kalle" mode. This uses a constant-velocity differential on the rear axle and Torsen limited-slip differentials on the front and rear axles to achieve linear handling. Among other things, this results in more dynamic cornering behavior.
The special model can be recognized by its exclusive three-colour paint finish, which was applied by Rovanperä's helmet designer. In addition to 18-inch BBS alloy wheels, the vehicle has a CFRP rear spoiler with variable wing, which it shares with the GRMN Yaris, as well as a synchronized rear axle transmission. A sticker on the front fender refers to the WRC success, while the rear features a reference to the Rovanperä Edition. There are also "GR" stickers on the doors and rear bumper. In the interior, the trim and seat upholstery are coordinated with the blue and grey national colors of Finland. As with the Ogier Edition, a special badge commemorates the WRC victory.
The edition models will be built in strictly limited numbers. Details on ordering and sales on the European markets have not yet been announced. (aum)
