Dacia will be competing in the Dakar Rally next year. Sandrider is the name of the prototype that the Romanians have now unveiled. It is powered by a 360 hp (265 kW) 3.0-liter V6 from Nissan and will run on synthetic fuel. The British specialists from Prodrive are providing development assistance.
In addition to nine-time World Rally Champion Sébastien Loeb and Nasser Al-Attiyah (five-time Dakar winner), Cristina Guitérrez is a promising rally talent. The 32-year-old Spaniard won the Challenger class at the last Dakar and is only the second woman after Jutta Kleinschmidt to win a class at the world's most dangerous rally. All drivers can have their cars customized.
But why is the parent company Renault sending Dacia of all companies to the Raid World Championship and not Alpine with its long rally tradition? (aum)
