Twelve percent more power for the Toyota Yaris
With 27,805 units, the Toyota Yaris came in 24th place among new registrations last year. Although this was around ten percent fewer than in 2022, the small car still accounted for a third of all passenger car sales by the world's largest car manufacturer in Germany, ranking fifth in its class. The Japanese company has now unveiled the next generation of the vehicle manufactured for Europe in France and the Czech Republic, which first saw the light of day a quarter of a century ago. It will be on sale from March and is already available to order.
The rejuvenation extends to the drive, safety and interior design. In addition to the familiar 116 hp hybrid engine (85 kW), there will also be a variant with 130 hp (96 kW) in future, which owes its additional power to a slightly more powerful electric motor with 62 kW (84 hp). The three-cylinder combustion engine, on the other hand, is identical in both versions. This twelve percent increase in power is said to reduce acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h by half a second, as well as from 80 km/h to 120 km/h. However, there is a surcharge of at least 6400 euros for this, as Toyota only gives the additional muscle as standard to the four more sophisticated versions Style, Style Plus, Premiere Edition and GR Sport.
The four basic editions Comfort, Business Edition, Club and Team Germany are not granted the 14 additional horses - at least not initially. If, contrary to expectations, a considerable number of potential customers express a desire for power even in the more modest versions, the decision will be reconsidered, it was said at the presentation of the Yaris facelift in Spain.
