CO2 emissions to fall by 90 percent by 2040

The European Council has adopted strict limits for CO2 emissions from heavy goods vehicles and buses. Emissions are to be gradually reduced by 90 percent by 2040 compared to 2019. The EU Commission still has to approve this. In practice, this means above all - as with cars - switching to electric drives. The decision was postponed once again on Wednesday, as a German veto had become apparent. The Federal Ministry of Transport had called for synthetic fuels, so-called e-fuels, to be taken into account in fleet emissions. This is now to be provided for in the legal text. (aum)
