Alfa Romeo is thinking of a power SUV à la Lamborghini Urus

Alfa Romeo is igniting the next stage of its model offensive and is reaching right to the top of the Stellantis Group's parts shelf. Even a high-performance SUV à la Lamborghini Urus, Ferrari Purosangue or Porsche Cayenne should be possible in the future, hints Alfa Romeo boss Jean-Philippe Imparato: "We will decide in 2025. The car could then arrive in 2029." The performance data of the electric SUV would be impressive: between 250 and 700 kW (340 to 950 hp) are possible, with a battery size of 85 to 118 kWh and an operating voltage of 800 volts.

As the Italian premium brand in the Stellantis Group, Alfa Romeo is thus continuing the model offensive introduced in 2021: "A new car every year," Imparato promised when he took office. This year, this will be the Alfa Romeo Milano, a car in the format between a small and compact car, similar to the Jeep Avenger or Fiat 600, which also come from the Stellanto stable. The Milano will be Alfa's first purely electric car, but hybrid and combustion engine variants are also possible. The Milano will be presented for the first time on April 10.

Last year, Alfa Romeo sales rose by 30 percent worldwide, in Germany by as much as 70 percent - although in this country the number of cars sold was still a modest 6198. The brand's two SUVs, Tonale and Stelvio, are selling particularly well, while the current Giulia is slowly getting on in years and only accounts for ten percent of sales. The new Tonale compact SUV, on the other hand, accounts for 60 percent, with the larger Stelvio SUV making up the rest. The super sports car 33 Stradale, only 33 of which were built, has long been sold out.

Giulia and Stelvio are to be renewed in 2025 and 2026. Both models will then be based on the STLA Large platform from Stellantis and will have the design features of the 33 Stradale. STLA Large allows all drive types, from battery-electric to pure combustion, as well as front, rear and all-wheel drive. "We need flexibility in the drive system," says Imparato. Even if Alfa Romeo - like all Stellantis brands - only wants to build electric cars in the not too distant future. In future, an 800-volt system will make the battery-electric drive even more attractive. This is because the electric vehicles can not only drive faster, but also charge faster. For Imparato, one thing is clear: "The world is moving towards zero emissions."
