Three cars can become "World Car of the Year"

First Europe, then the world: after the Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric was named European "Car of the Year" at the Geneva Motor Show, the global jury of more than 100 trade journalists for the "World Car of the Years" awards - which has nothing to do with the traditional European jury - announced its finalists. Three vehicles are up for election in each of the six categories. And the three candidates for the title of "World Car of The Year" have also been decided. The winners will be announced in four weeks' time at the motor show in New York.

The three finalists in the World Luxury Car category are the BMW 5 Series/i5, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. In the World Urban Car category, the BYD Dolphin, Lexus LBX and Volvo EX30 are in the final round. In the purely electric car category, the decision will be made between the BMW i5, Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30. Among the performance cars, the two BMW models M2 and XM and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N impressed the judges. The most successful designs were chosen from the Ferrari Purosangue, Ford Bronco and Toyota Prius. And the main winner is BYD Seal/Atto 4, Kia EV9 and Volvo EX30: One of the three will be crowned "World Car of The Year" at the Javits Center in Manhattan at the end of March.

Incidentally, it wasn't just about cars in Geneva: at its press conference, the jury announced a scholarship that will support an outstanding design student every year - at a different design school each year. The program is being launched in collaboration with Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences - in memory of Gernot Bracht, who passed away last year and was a design expert on the WCOTY jury for many years. The jury is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Six of the more than 100 jurors come from Germany. (aum)
