Jaguar Land Rover wants to generate its own solar energy

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) wants to generate over a quarter of the electricity it consumes in the UK from renewable energy to cut costs and reduce reliance on grid energy. The project is part of the strategy to meet over a third of global electricity demand through onsite and near-site renewable energy by 2030. A central component is the installation of different types of solar in key locations in England. A mixture of roof-mounted and ground-mounted solar systems as well as solar carports for charging electric cars are intended to increase the self-generated energy capacity.

Work on the first three solar projects at the plant in Halewood, Merseyside, Wolverhampton and the headquarters in Gaydon is due to start this year. At their peak, the new off-grid energy projects are expected to generate almost 120 megawatts of energy - enough to power around 44,500 homes or charge 2.7 million I-Pace batteries each year. (aum)
