Ineos Grenadier takes rally class victory

The Ineos Grenadier took class victory in the Truck/SUV category at the Alcan 5000 Rally in the USA and Canada, in which 17 vehicles competed. The unchanged production vehicle was driven by the two Americans Andy and Mercedes Lilienthal. The long-distance rally covered more than 8000 kilometers over ten days.
In the Alcan 5000 (= 5000 miles), it is not the fastest team that wins, but the participants have to follow specific routes on public roads or paths at precisely specified speeds. The teams that come closest to their target time win their respective class. The rally runs through the far northwest of the USA and Canada. It starts in Kirkland in Washington State, crosses British Columbia in Canada and leads across the Arctic Circle to Alaska. It ends in Anchorage, one day before the famous Iditarod race between sled drivers and their dog teams. Over the course of the rally, the participants have to overcome icy roads, ice slaloms, long-distance stages and 14-hour driving days. (aum/av)
