Volvo Trucks wants to burn hydrogen

Volvo Trucks is developing trucks whose combustion engines can be powered directly by hydrogen. Initial tests are already underway in the laboratory and in vehicles. The first road tests in customer hands are scheduled for 2026, with the market launch planned for the end of the decade. The trucks will run on green hydrogen.

Volvo has already signed an agreement to form a joint venture with Westport Fuel Systems to utilize HPDI technology. The joint venture is expected to commence operations in the second quarter of 2024 after the official closing. (aum)
