Toyota Land Cruiser: Back to the edge

A good year before its official market launch, Toyota has unveiled the new Land Cruiser. With it, the brand returns to the edgy lines and roots of the series. The 204 hp (150 kW) 2.8 liter diesel remains, but it is coupled to a new eight speed automatic. Toyota also remains faithful to the ladder frame principle, but has made significant changes to the chassis. For example, the front stabilizer can be uncoupled at the touch of a button from the cockpit for better axle articulation off-road. Also new is the electromechanical steering system, which reduces jolts when driving on uneven terrain.

The 4.92 meter long Land Cruiser is available as a five- and a seven-seater. Even though the model won't be on the market until next summer, Toyota already has requests for pre-orders. These will be possible at autumn. Prices are not yet available, however. What is certain, however, is that there will initially be a fully equipped "Fist Edition" limited to 3000 units throughout Europe. (aum)
