Toyota gives the Hilux a fuel cell

Toyota, a self-confessed promoter of this drive alternative, has converted a Hilux to fuel cell drive. The powertrain uses key components of the Mirai. Hydrogen is stored in three high-pressure tanks, allowing a range of more than 600 kilometers. The battery, which stores the electricity generated by the fuel cell, is housed under the cargo bed. The prototype of the hydrogen-powered pickup truck was developed with various partners and financial support from the British government at the Burnaston plant in the UK. Nine more prototypes are to be built for testing by the end of the year. (aum)
