BMW refines X5 and X6

BMW has once again refined the X5 and its sister model X6 - among other things with 48-volt hybridization. The top version is the X6 in an M-Competition variant. The turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 delivers 625 hp (460 kW) and 750 Nm of torque. The X6 x-Drive 30d with six-cylinder diesel, 298 hp (219 kW) and 48-volt technology is the more sensible version. Consumption: less than eight liters per 100 kilometers.

An alternative to the diesel is the plug-in hybrid, which gives the X5 50e a lush 489 hp (360 kW) and up to 110 kilometers of electric range. When the large battery is empty, consumption naturally shoots up: Long-distance drivers are therefore still better off with the diesel.

Common to all X5 and X6 models is the redesigned cockpit with curved screen. Voice recognition has also been significantly improved. Prices for the X5 start at 87,300 euros, for the X6 at 94,900 euros; the X6 M Competition marks the upper limit at 165,400 euros. (aum)
