New spearhead for the Mercedes-AMG GT series

On the sidelines of the Formula 1 weekend in Shanghai, Mercedes-AMG presented the new top-of-the-range model in its GT series with plug-in hybrid drive. The AMG GT 63 S E-Performance combines the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine with 612 hp (450 kW) on the front axle with an Electric Drive Unit on the rear axle, which integrates a 150 kW (204 hp), permanently excited electric motor with a two-speed gearbox and a mechanical rear axle limited slip differential. Together, this results in a system output of 600 kW (816 hp) and a massive torque of up to 1420 Nm.

The acceleration is correspondingly powerful. The power coupé reaches 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 320 km/h. Systems such as the AMG Active Ride Control suspension with roll stabilization and active rear-axle steering are designed to ensure a successful spread between driving dynamics and everyday comfort. The battery, which has a capacity of just 6.1 kWh and can be called up frequently in succession, serves more as a drive booster than for electric driving. A maximum range of 13 kilometers speaks for itself. It can be charged with alternating current via the 3.7 kW on-board charger at a charging station, wallbox or household socket.

To keep the extreme performance values in check, a high-performance ceramic brake with bronze-colored 6-piston fixed calipers at the front and 1-piston floating calipers at the rear is used as standard. The new spearhead of the AMG GT series can be recognized by the rear section with fluted trapezoidal twin tailpipe trims, integrated plug-in charging flap and model designation highlighted in red. The "E PERFORMANCE" fender badge on the side indicates the drive system. The hybrid model rolls on 20-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels with mixed tires as standard: 295/35 R 20 on the front axle and 305/35 R 20 on the rear axle. (aum)
