Field test Jeep Compass 4xe PHEV: City adventurer with off-road flair

The Jeep Compass 4xe PHEV 177 kW AT S is an urban electric SUV that bears its name not entirely without reason. With its plug-in hybrid drive, it can glide almost silently through the city for up to 45 kilometers, provided the battery is charged daily. But beware of too many traffic light starts, the additional weight of 1935 kilograms becomes noticeable. In hybrid mode, it shows its sporty side, sprinting to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and can reach up to 200 km/h.

The chassis is convincing when driving fast, but the steering could be better. The Compass is a permanent four-wheel drive SUV with a powerful gasoline engine and an electric motor in the rear. In the city, it is comfortable and well equipped with heated leather seats, heated steering wheel, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with navigation.

Material quality and workmanship are top notch, although the controls for heated seats and steering wheel are a bit awkward. The trunk offers ample space, and visually, the Compass scores high in the S tover version with leather seats, black-painted 19-inch wheels, and high-gloss black trim. The Jeep Compass is the ideal companion for city adventures with a touch of off-road flair. (aum/fw)
