Peugeot E-3008: The lion runs very far

Peugeot is getting serious. It is not just paying lip service to taking electromobility seriously; after the electrification of the 308 SW, the new edition of the 3008 will be launched as a fully electric vehicle at the beginning of 2024. The brand has chosen historic ground for the static premiere. The E-3008 made its first public appearance in Sochaux, where Peugeot was founded.

The suit fits. The silhouette of the "fastback SUV" (in Peugeot's words), which is positioned in the C segment, gains coupe-like dynamics with the roof line dropping significantly towards the rear. The front is characterized by the contoured hood and the high fenders as well as the wide radiator grille with very flat headlights. The daytime running lights, each consisting of three narrow LED strips, are particularly striking. At the rear, this pattern is repeated in the taillights. Peugeot is happy to remind us of its heraldic animal, the lion, whose claws could tear such lines.

The interior is dominated by a trapezoidal and concavely curved 21-inch display, which is 53.3 centimeters and was considered a veritable home TV not so long ago. The i-Cockpit, which was rejected by some, thus mutates into the new Panaramo i-Cockpit. The driving information is not displayed under the steering wheel rim, but above it. The screen's mounting is hidden, so it seems to float in front of the dashboard and gives the cockpit a very futuristic look. The vehicle's systems are controlled via an additional touchscreen in the center. The buttons underneath are freely programmable for faster access.

The Peugeot is based on the new STLA platform, which currently allows the installation of batteries with up to 98 kilowatt hours, which should help the E-3008 achieve a range of a good 700 kilometers. The revised drive technology comes from the Opel Grandland, and there will be three different performance levels as well as an all-wheel drive version.

Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson outlines the brand's future as purely electric. By 2025, the aim is to become the number one e-car manufacturer in Europe, and there will then be eleven pure electrics in the range, nine of which will be passenger cars. Next on the agenda are the 5008 and the 408, all of which will be produced in France. (aum)
