Volkswagen has unveiled the new Tiguan. Employees at the main plant in Wolfsburg saw the new model for the first time today. Production is scheduled to start there in the fall, with the market launch taking place at the beginning of next year. As a plug-in hybrid, the third generation of the compact SUV will offer an electric range of around 100 kilometers, get chassis control with two-valve dampers and feature massage seats and HD matrix headlights, for example. The cd value improves from 0.33 to 0.28 compared with the current generation.
Volkswagen has also completely redesigned the interior with a digital cockpit, large infotainment screen and head-up display, as well as a new "driving experience" switch in the center console and DSG selector lever on the steering wheel.
The powertrain spectrum ranges from the1.5 e-TSI with 130 hp (96 kW) and 48-volt hybridization to the plug-in e-hybrid with a system output of 272 hp (200 kW). In addition to the four hybrid models, there are two 2.0-liter gasoline and two 2.0-liter diesel models, the top versions of each of which come with all-wheel drive. All Tiguan models have a dual-clutch transmission.
The new Tiguan is three centimeters longer and barely higher than its predecessor. Width and wheelbase remain unchanged, and the trunk volume increases to 652 liters. Like its predecessor, the Tiguan III will be launched in four equipment versions: "Tiguan", "Life", "Elegance" and "R-Line". (aum)
