Volvo has given the two compact SUVs, the XC40 and the coupe offshoot, the C40, a facelift. But instead of new trim, fresh colors and upholstery, the Swedes are getting right down to business and turning the entire powertrain inside out. A new, self-developed permanent magnet synchronous motor now forms the basis for the two electric cars. It no longer drives the front wheels, but is located on the rear axle for better traction. At the same time, the range is increased to up to 581 kilometers on one battery charge. In addition, the all-wheel drive has been improved in the variants with twin engines. The rear-wheel drive base model starts at 47,500 euros in both the XC40 and the C40 and has received slightly more power at 175 kW (238 hp). (aum)
