Cupra lends its name to nationwide padel tournament series

Cupra will be the namesake of the German Padel Tour (GPT) this year. The tournament series for this up-and-coming sport, organized by the German Tennis Federation (DTB), was held for the first time in 2023 and is now set to become significantly larger and more professional.

While there were only six events on the tournament calendar last year, 41 events are currently planned for the Cupra German Padel Tour 2024 - divided into the tournament categories GPT Finals, 1000, 500, 250 and 100. The starting shot will be fired in March. After that, there will be several tournaments throughout Germany every month where padel players can collect points for the GPT ranking. The highlight of the series is the GPT Finals, which take place in Dortmund from September 6 to 8.

The DTB pays out prize money from the 500 category upwards. The 100 and 250 categories are intended to give amateur players an introduction to competitive sport. The best seven women's, men's and mixed teams of the year qualify for the finals. The DTB awards one further starting place in the three competitions via wildcard.

The winning doubles teams in the finals can look forward to prize money of 3000 euros (men's and women's). They will also receive a wildcard for the Boss German Padel Open, which will take place at the end of September. The tournament in Düsseldorf is part of the Premier Padel Tour 2024, which is also supported by Cupra. The best players in the world compete in this international tournament series with 25 events in 18 countries on five continents. (aum)
