Toyota commissions LG to supply batteries

Toyota will produce a new electric car in the USA from 2025. LG Energy Solution will supply the lithium-ion batteries. Both companies have agreed to supply battery modules with an annual capacity of 20 GWh from 2025. The cells, made of high-nickel NCMA (nickel, cobalt, manganese, aluminum) cells, will be manufactured at LG's Michigan plant. The company is investing the equivalent of around 2.85 billion euros in the production facility to build new production lines for battery cells and modules exclusively for Toyota. The modules will initially go to Toyota's U.S. plant in Kentucky, where they will be assembled into battery packs and installed in the electric cars. (aum)
