Because of its pink paint job, the Porsche 917/20 entered in Le Mans in 1971 was also known as the "Pink Pig," "Dicke Berta" or simply "Sau. Its iconic design has now been the inspiration for a new kite and board that Porsche is launching in cooperation with manufacturer Duotone. The kite is available in sizes seven, nine and twelve meters, and the board is 1.38 meters long.
Porsche designer Anatole Lapine had labeled the individual sections of the pink body to match the meat parts of a pig. The team won the pre-practice session, although it started without any previous practice sessions. In the main race, however, the 917/20 was forced to retire in an accident while in sixth place.
In keeping with the car's top speed, the Kite special edition is limited to 360 units. Registration is possible via Duotone's online store. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the kite and board will support Duotone's "Young Blood" program to promote young talent. Last year, Duotone's first Porsche kite sold out in a very short time. (aum)
