Stellantis and Samsung plan second gigafactory

As part of their joint venture Star Plus Energy, Stellantis and Samsung are planning to build a second battery factory. It is to be built at the site of the Gigafactory already under construction in Kokomo in the US state of Indiana. The new plant is expected to start production in early 2027 with an annual capacity of 34 gigawatt hours (GWh). The joint venture will invest the equivalent of more than 2.8 billion euros and create 400 new jobs in Kokomo and the surrounding area.

The production facility already under construction is scheduled to come on stream in the first quarter of 2025 with an annual production capacity of 33 GWh. The total investment for both plants will be more than $6.3 billion (€5.5 billion), and a total of 2,800 new jobs will be created.

As part of its "Dare Forward 2030" strategic plan, Stellantis aims to achieve a sales mix of exclusively battery-electric passenger cars in Europe and 50 percent for passenger cars and commercial vehicles in the United States by 2030. (aum)
