Kia shows EV5 and two studies

Kia aims to sell one million electric cars worldwide in two years. By the end of the decade, the target is 1.6 million units a year. With the EV5, the Koreans presented a new compact SUV at their "EV Day" in Seoul, the series production of which is imminent next year. it is a kind of small EV 9. somewhat further into the future are two studies: the Concept EV3 as another compact SUV for Millennial families and the sporty styled sedan Concept EV4. targeted prices for the future models are between $35,000 and $50,000 (approx. 33,000 to 47,000 euros).

The Kia EV5 has an interior inspired by the EV9 with a lounge-like character. It is produced in China and Korea. Three versions are available for the Chinese market: they produce 160 kW (218 hp) or 230 kW (313 hp) with all-wheel drive and have standard ranges of up to 720 kilometers according to the Chinese Light-Duty Vehicle Test (CLTC). The versions for the Quranese market differ slightly, particularly in terms of battery size.

The EV5 features a panoramic display with two 12.3-inch screens for the instrument cluster and navigation system, and a 5-inch touchscreen in between. Assist systems include highway and autonomous parking assist. Work is still underway to integrate features such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G). The vehicle offers a "camping" back seat for overnight stays. Provisions can be stored in the rear console, which has a four-liter coolable and heatable compartment.The "Multi Table" luggage rack can be converted into a table.

The "Kia App" is also scheduled for release in the first half of 2024. It is designed to provide customers with a comprehensive and seamless experience from vehicle selection to test drives and contract signing. The application will include an AI chatbot to help customers with questions and provide quick answers. It will also include discounts on insurance premiums and, most importantly, an "e-routing" feature that suggests the best route based on the vehicle's current battery status, taking charging stations into account.

Also announced at EV Day were the bundling of various functions into a user-friendly smartphone application, the introduction of new services at brand locations, and the provision of artificial intelligence (AI) services in the vehicle. The company plans to expand its global EV production to a total of eight sites by 2025. In addition, the company is establishing battery joint ventures.

As part of an alliance of six automotive companies, Kia is also working to build 30,000 fast-charging stations across North America by 2030. Starting late next year, U.S. models will also have Tesla's NACS charging standardb. In Europe, the brand is part of the Ionity charging infrastructure alliance, which is supported by five manufacturers. (aum)
