Toyota, as the official mobility partner of the International Olympic and Paralympic Committee, will transport more than 5,000 visitors to the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in converted fuel cell buses. After the competitions, the hydrogen-powered coaches will be handed over to public and private customers.
Toyota is supplying GCK - a group of industrial companies that provide technological solutions to accelerate the decarbonization of transport - with fuel cell modules to convert ten used Iveco coaches into zero-emission vehicles. These will be taken over by B.E. Green, a French company specializing in CO2-neutral transport services, to be integrated into its existing fleet of vehicles after the Games.
The conversion involves replacing the diesel engine and transmission in the front of the bus with a 370-kW electric motor (503 hp), batteries and Toyota's TFCM2-B fuel cell module. "The conversion of classic coaches into fuel cell vehicles is another important step on the road to CO₂ neutrality in the transport sector," explains Thiebault Paquet, vice president at Toyota Motor Europe responsible for the hydrogen division.
