Manfred Weber wants to overturn the EU's ban on combustion engines

The CSU lead candidate and Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament wants to overturn the 2035 ban on combustion engines. Manfred Weber has now told the newspapers of the Bavarian Media Group. "If my group can secure a majority after the European elections, we will reverse the ban on combustion engines passed by the European Parliament in this legislative period," announced the leader of what is now the second-largest political group in the European Parliament.

The EU had agreed on a revision of the plans for 2026, which will also examine how many e-cars and charging stations there are. Weber: "I would like to use this revision to remedy this decision driven by the red and green parties, which has led to massive competitive disadvantages for the EU," said Weber. Internal combustion vehicles should be able to continue to be registered after 2035 if they are CO2-neutral - i.e. run on synthetic fuels, so-called e-fuels. (aum)
