Amarok drivers can only smile about SUVs

Amarok drivers can only smile wearily at SUVs, pseudo off-road vehicles that capitulate before even a damp meadow. The pick-up from Volkswagen is the anti-SUV: mercilessly trimmed for use in the tough everyday life of farmers, horse breeders, civil engineers or landscape gardeners. This has convinced 830,000 buyers so far. Now comes the new generation.

In Germany, the new Amarok, which is built in South Africa, is only available with diesel and all-wheel drive as a crew cab. The 5.35 meter long vehicle performs brilliantly off-road - thanks to the short body overhangs, high ground clearance, mechanical locks and off-road gear. Six drive programs are available - for almost every purpose and surface. A payload of 1.19 tons is possible. If you have even more to transport, take it on the hook: the cold-blooded vehicles or construction machinery that the Amarok can tow with the detachable trailer coupling can weigh up to 3.5 tons. The roof can carry up to 350 kilos when stationary and 85 kilos while driving. This is easily enough for a family-sized roof tent. The lashing eyes on the loading area can withstand 400 kilos.

The pick-up, developed jointly with Ford for the first time (Amarok and Ranger are built at the same plant in South Africa), is available at prices starting from 47,121 euros. (aum)
