Seat triples its solar power

Seat will almost triple its capacity to generate its own renewable energy next year. The expansion of the company's photovoltaic systems includes the installation of 39,000 new solar cells on a total area of 233,000 square meters at the three production sites in Martorell, El Prat and Barcelona. The Seat al Sol 2 project will be one of the largest installations in Europe that will exclusively cover the operator's own needs. The new installation will provide an additional output of 21 megawatts (MW) and generate around 29 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity per year. This would be enough to fully charge half a million Cupra Born cars. The solar energy will supplement the use of certified green electricity from external sources.

For ten years now, 53,000 solar panels on the roofs of the workshops and storage areas at the Martorell site have been generating around 17 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy per year. With Seat al Sol 2, the company's solar project will offer a total output of 32 megawatts (MW) and produce 46 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy per year. (aum)
