Eon opens test center for e-mobility

E.ON is investing in the electromobility solutions business. The german energy company opened a test and innovation center for charging technologies and sustainable energy solutions in Essen today. On an area of around 10,000 square meters, more than 25 test stations and digital test environments are available for testing vehicles, charging stations, wallboxes and accessories. The test laboratory also has five special climate chambers. They can be used to investigate the charging behavior of electric cars at temperatures between minus 40 and plus 50 degrees Celsius. This allows customers such as car manufacturers to save on the costs of tests in a real environment.

A particular focus of the test laboratory is the electrification of heavy goods vehicles. Together with vehicle manufacturers, E.ON tests and develops charging technologies that are designed for the special requirements of electric trucks and buses. The test laboratory is the only facility in Europe where fast charging in heavy goods vehicles with up to three megawatts of power can be tested.

In addition to research and development, E.ON also trains its customers and partners in installation and maintenance at the test center. The integration of electric vehicles and charging stations into the energy ecosystem is also being investigated. (aum)
