New Stellantis platform for the big electric hummers

Stellantis has presented its new "STLA Large" platform, which is to be used worldwide as the basis for future electric vehicles in the D and E segments. The great flexibility of the platform enables engineers and designers to adapt the wheelbase, overall length, overall width and height as well as the ground clearance so that a wide range of vehicle types, from conventional passenger cars to crossovers and SUVs, can be built on it.

As a platform designed for BEVs, it was also designed and developed with the option of 400-volt and 800-volt electric architectures; the corresponding batteries could be charged at up to 4.5 kWh per minute. Initially, batteries with an energy output of between 85 and 118 kilowatt hours (kWh) are planned. This would enable sedans to achieve a total range of 800 kilometers. The first generation of drive components should deliver acceleration from 0-100 km/h in the 2-second range.

Initially, STLA Large will be used by Dodge and Jeep in the USA. In the next step, brands such as Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Maserati will follow. Eight vehicles with the new platform are planned between 2024 and 2026. One of the first will be the already announced Jeep Wagoneer. (aum)
