Meticulous search for traces: 121 years of motorcycle history in Nuremberg

Not only in Nuremberg, but also in Fürth, Erlangen, Neumarkt, Schwabach, Forchheim and Bamberg, a motorcycle industry existed from 1884 to 2005 that was unique in Germany. It experienced two high points with subsequent declines. Thomas Reinwald has spent decades meticulously searching for traces and has tracked down almost 60 manufacturers who more or less successfully built motorized two-wheelers in the region between 1884 and 2005. He dedicates 60 chapters to them in his book "Nuremberg Motorcycle History", spread over 256 pages and illustrated with 676 pictures.

Some of the backyard companies disappeared just as they had arrived, while others such as Hercules, Zündapp and Sachs represent a large part of German industrial history. The reader also comes across names such as Uvex and Steib, Bing carburetors and even a piece of MZ in Zirndorf, near Nuremberg.

"Nürnberger Motorradgeschichte" by Thomas Reinwald is published by Zweirad-Verlag Fürth and costs 39 euros. (aum)
