Stellantis expands EMD production in Hungary

Stellantis wants to increase the production of electric drive modules (EDMs). To this end, capacities at the Hungarian factory in Szentgotthard are to be expanded by the end of 2026. The total investment, including subsidies and contributions from the Hungarian government, will amount to around 103 million euros.

The modules produced in Ungarn will be used in vehicles assembled on a new battery-electric platform. The production of the three individual EMD components - electric motor, reduction gearbox and inverter - will be housed in the plant's existing buildings. The Szentgotthard plant currently builds 1.2-liter turbo three-cylinder and 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines for various Group brands.

Stellantis has already upgraded the plants in Trémery-Metz (France) and Kokomo (Indiana, USA) for the production of EDMs. In addition, the Mirafiori complex in Italy will increase production of the next generation of electrified dual-clutch transmissions for the car group's hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles from 2024.
