Mercedes-Benz continues the G-Class

Mercedes-Benz is continuing the history of the G-Class. In its 45th year, the new model generation is characterized above all by updates in terms of electrification, comfort, digitalization and assistance systems as well as more power. Among other things, the MBUX infotainment system with AR navigation is moving into the classic off-roader.

The new "Offroad" cockpit offers an overview of relevant data for off-road driving as well as functions to support off-road driving in both the driver and media display. In addition to the two mild hybrids G 450 d and G 500 and the Mercedes-AMG G 63 performance model, there will also be an electric version at a later date.

Externally, the model series naturally remains true to its rustic appearance, but in future the radiator grille will have four horizontal slats instead of the previous three. At the same time, the front bumpers will be given a new grille look. A new A-pillar trim and a spoiler lip on the roof trim contribute to improved aerodynamics and noise reduction.

The G 500 gets a new 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine. It produces 449 hp (330 kW) and delivers up to 560 Newton meters of torque. The integrated starter-generator (ISG) provides an additional 20 hp (15 kW) and 200 Nm in the short term. The G 450 d, which is also hybridized with a 48-volt on-board electrical system, achieves 367 hp (270 kW) and 750 Nm plus the additional output of the ISG.

The top model is the Mercedes-AMG G 63 with a four-liter V8, which delivers 585 hp (430 kW) and 850 Nm. Here, too, there is an additional 20 hp and 200 Nm of electric assistance. The G 63 sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and the top speed is limited to 220 km/h. With the optional Performance package, this is a tenth of a second less and 20 km/h more.

Prices for the G-Class start at 122,808 euros. (aum)
